Heading into the second half of the 2025-26 NBA season, the Washington Wizards are widely expected to do everything in their power to boost their chances of a top-four finish, considering how they owe the New York Knicks their first-rounder if they fall out of the top-eight. But no one told the Wizards youngsters about the memo.
On Thursday night, the Wizards defeated the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons 126-117 on the back of impressive performances from their young players off the bench – led by Will Riley and Shareef Cooper. Washington limited its best active players to limited workloads and still came out on top despite a 30-8-8 night from Cade Cunningham.
Maybe something is going on in the nation's capital, and they are in a good position to contend next season, especially after bringing in Trae Young and Anthony Davis on such a cheap price. The Wizards are on a rapid upward trend, and fans couldn't be happier on social media.
X user @DoublePoint_s wrote, “Resting young talent for young talent. Brian Keefe is actively trying to lose this game and the Wizards somehow got the dub.”
“As a Wizards fan I'm very curious to see the roles that young people are going to play next year. But other than that I'm super [excited] Because we have been in hell for a long time,” said @GIJ009.
@termyami added, “The Wizards are already showing the Pistons that the top of da East belongs in next year's fairs.”
The Wizards are going to have a very organized roster

Health permitting, the Wizards are going to be a playoff team next year. However, getting at least 60 games out of Davis will be important, although that shouldn't be too much to ask, especially when he will be paired with a talented big man like Alex Sarr in the frontcourt.
Young also remains one of the best playmakers in the NBA, freeing up players like Keyshawn George and Trey Johnson to focus on other aspects of the game while letting his floor generals take care of business.
