Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson, two of the best NASCAR drivers of their era, have each experienced what it’s like to win at Daytona International Speedway. Although no longer likely to reach victory lane, both racing veterans have genuine interest in racing again at Daytona next season.
On Friday night, Stewart went behind the wheel in the Truck Series for his first NASCAR race since 2016. While he was involved in an accident in his first Trucks appearance in two decades, he came out of it with an interest in getting behind the wheel again in the future.

Although fans likely won’t see the 54-year-old driving in the Cup Series again, the same can’t be said for Johnson. He will compete in the Daytona 500 on Sunday, and he will compete in the San Diego Street Race at Coronado Naval Base later this year.
For the 2027 NASCAR season, Johnson said he will drive a fourth entry for Legacy Motor Club in the Daytona 500 next year. He also revealed that this would be the last time he would compete in a Cup Series race.
Johnson, who will turn 51 in September, is a seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and two-time Daytona 500 winner. His appearance on Sunday will come two decades after his first Daytona 500 victory and exactly one year after he finished third behind William Byron and Tyler Reddick in the season-opening Cup Series race.

The 2027 Daytona 500 could prove to be very special, as there is a real possibility that it will be the last time future Hall of Famer Denny Hamlin drives the No. 11 car for this prestigious event. If that proves to be the case, tickets for next year’s marquee race at Daytona International Speedway could be in higher demand than in recent years.
