We all love seeing the Carolina Hurricanes change up their look, don’t we? …Correct? Well, maybe not, but we’ll have to figure it out and hope for the best for their latest new uniform leak.
According to a leak by u/PollutionSoggy9411 on Reddit, the Hurricanes are rumored to be getting a new special jersey, along with 31 other NHL teams in the 2026-27 season. The person claimed to be an employee of an unspecified hockey retailer and shared details listed on their catalog for an upcoming campaign.
The listing includes the primary colors per team, the price tag ($200 USD empty, $230 USD with nameplate), and its acronym, ‘HTR’.
Generally, unconfirmed rumors from unofficial sources are taken with a grain of salt, as stated by the leaker himself; However, a recent discovery lends some credence to the rumor.
According to Glenn Cook at SportsLogos.net, the NHL’s primary jersey supplier, Fanatics, filed a trademark through the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the phrase “Hometown Remix” – which matches the acronym initially provided.
Storm has a chance to create something truly unique
The primary color of the Hurricane was listed by the leaker as grey.
During the Reverse Retro campaign, their 2021 kit was inspired by the Hartford Whalers, but with gray as the base color. Meanwhile, their 2022–23 kit was simply a recolor of their road uniform from 2019–2024.
Considering the colors listed for other teams, like green for the Anaheim Ducks and pink for the Florida Panthers, it seems there may be more freedom in the design for this version of the uniform. After all, a ‘remix’ is much less distinctive than something tagged with the words ‘retro’.
While this could see the return of a classic tribute to the Whalers, the Hurricanes should use this as an opportunity to create something unique and celebrate their true hometown in Raleigh. Although I’m not sure how the oak tree and acorn would look on a uniform, it would be better than carrying over a design we’ve already seen many times.
