Recently, it was revealed that the Milwaukee Bucks will not be trading Giannis Antetokounmpo before the NBA trade deadline despite months of speculation on that front. The decision continued the saga that has captivated the NBA world since last season, with major questions being raised about what the Bucks' strategy is actually going forward.
Antetokounmpo drew some criticism from fans by announcing his partnership with Kalshi, a prediction market with sports trading opportunities after the deadline, which many considered poor form in view of the trade deadline, Nothing Burger.
Now, Antetokounmpo has announced another business venture that he will take part in pursuing: Chelsea FC Women's ownership group.
Antetokounmpo wrote on social media that Chelsea FC “is a historic club built on passion, excellence and a winning culture. Chelsea's history speaks for itself, and I'm excited to contribute to the future by supporting the continued growth and impact of the women's game. It's about ambition, legacy and taking the game to new heights. CHELSEA!” X, according to his account on Twitter in the past.
While this move may be exciting for Antetokounmpo and his agents, it's not the news that Bucks fans, or fans of many other fanbases around the league, were expecting to see an announcement about the future Hall of Famer around this time of year.
There were reportedly a lot of suitors on the trade market for Antetokounmpo over the past several weeks, but ultimately, it appears none of them made an offer big enough that the Bucks couldn't refuse.
Now, it remains to be seen what the strategy will be for Milwaukee moving forward this year, as giving up as much as possible to acquire a better draft pick would benefit the team tremendously, although they would receive less from their own selection and the New Orleans Pelicans' selection.
The Bucks next play on Monday against the Orlando Magic.
