It can't be denied that the Washington Wizards walked away as one of the biggest winners from the NBA trade deadline. Anthony Davis and Trae Young are two All-Star talents that this organization added for virtually nothing, and the Wizards are finally emerging from their rebuild. However, while some had great trading deadlines, others were left scratching their heads.
For one, the Giannis Antetokounmpo situation has perplexed many around the NBA following the trade deadline. Did the Bucks even intend to trade Giannis, or were they trying to get information from teams?
Those who were pursuing Antetokounmpo either moved on to other, lesser moves before the trade deadline, or they sat back and made no move in hopes of another chance to pursue Giannis come summer.
Somehow, teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat had no chance to land Antetokounmpo before the trade deadline and were left in the dark.
In addition to all the trade drama surrounding Giannis over the past month, other situations around the league including Ja Morant's deal with the Memphis Grizzlies were left unresolved.
Every organization has its own agenda, and sometimes that doesn't always align with the thought process of the media and fans. However, there are obvious disadvantages to this year's NBA trade deadline, and none bigger than the Heat.
Miami Heat

What's the plan in South Beach? Bam Adebayo is now 28 years old and not getting any younger, and it seems like the Heat have wasted his last few seasons by becoming nothing more than a play-in team.
Once again, the Heat are on a collision course with the play-in tournament, as they were the only team in the East to not make a move at the trade deadline. Obviously, the Heat put all their eggs in Giannis' basket and thought they had a clear chance to get him, but the truth of the matter is that the Bucks never negotiated with teams and did not submit counter-offers.
That's why all of the teams that were discussing the possibility of trading Giannis with the Bucks indicated that Milwaukee was never true to its intentions to trade the two-time MVP.
Miami took a hit at the trade deadline, and failed to add any talent that could help them both this season and become a potential title contender next season. Now, the Heat are looking at what will be a very unpredictable offseason for them.
Norman Powell will be a free agent, Tyler Herro's extension talks will only grow louder, and the expiring money from Terry Rozier and Simon Fontecchio's contracts was not used in any trades for upgrades.
There is still a lot of work to be done for the Heat to be taken seriously in the East.
Not just the Heat, but all Giannis Antetokounmpo lovers

The Heat will obviously receive a lot of backlash for failing to pursue Giannis and not making any moves to improve their immediate approach. However, Miami, along with other teams who thought they had a good chance to land Giannis, remained at a huge disadvantage at the NBA trade deadline for several reasons.
Not only is Giannis staying in Milwaukee, but now all the information he gave the Bucks about their players and assets could come back to hurt them.
The Warriors and Timberwolves were the two other teams pursuing Antetokounmpo, so how would their personnel react to the fact that they were involved in these negotiations? Will any organization deal with any toxic environment of players now knowing they are being traded for Giannis?
Plus, the Bucks can now take all the information given about said teams in the offseason and use it to their advantage in future negotiations about Giannis or other trade discussions for different players. It never hurts to learn about your competitors, and that's what the Bucks now have.
Teams dreamed of pursuing Giannis at the trade deadline, and instead, they have no idea which direction to go now.
Golden State Warriors fans

Ever since Kevin Durant left the Warriors in 2019, the organization and owner Joe Lacob have dreamed of pursuing Giannis. The Warriors made a very compelling offer focusing on multiple draft selections through 2032, and it raised the Bucks' eyebrows a bit. However, Milwaukee was never going to trade Giannis, and Golden State was not going to make a deal with the players in their package, no matter what.
Warriors fans may be a little disappointed after trade talks for Kevin Durant failed last season. The only difference is that the Dubs went ahead and made a deal for another All-Star – Jimmy Butler.
This year, the Warriors were unable to move on another big name, not only because there was no one available worth trading for, but also because the organization was unwilling to pay the asking prices around the league.
Jaren Jackson Jr. was traded to the Utah Jazz for three first-round picks, and that's a price the Warriors won't be able to meet. Trey Murphy III was not going to move on from the New Orleans Pelicans, especially as that organization demanded at least three first-round picks.
With Butler out for the season, landing another star to pair with Stephen Curry, Warriors fans expected them to try to capture more titles at the end of Curry's career. Well, the Warriors turned to Option C before the deadline, ultimately trading Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield for Kristaps Porzingis.
Is it enough for the warriors? Porzingis can obviously help the Warriors reach and compete in the playoffs if he is healthy, but the truth of the matter is that this is another year where Golden State has no chance to compete at the top of the West with the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and other teams competing for a championship.
Since the offseason, fans of this team were hoping to get a big name using draft picks and Kuminga's contract. After the deadline, Kuminga is now gone, there is no new star on the roster, and Porzingis' health issues are weighing heavily on his chances of making an impact before becoming an unrestricted free agent.
ja morant

It's no secret to anyone that Ja Morant's relationship with the Memphis Grizzlies front office and head coach Tuomas Isalo is beyond repair. Morant may love playing in Memphis and for Grizzlies fans, but it's clear he will be traded in the offseason after the team failed to find a trade for him just before the NBA trade deadline.
To make matters worse for Morant, he now finds himself in a difficult situation. The Grizzlies are rebuilding, and he knows he won't be a part of that future with all this young talent, so where does everyone go from here?
Have the Grizzlies shut Morant down for the rest of the season? Will the team allow Morant to be benched for the next two months?
If we know anything about Ja, it's that he loves to play. Now that he's living in Memphis, for now, he won't want to sit out games and help the Grizzlies tank for draft position.
This is going to turn into a toxic situation really fast, especially after Memphis traded Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz, who was one of Morant's closest friends.
Sacramento Kings

Compared to other teams in the league, at least there is some type of vision for the Sacramento Kings. Keegan Murray and Nick Clifford are two young, promising-looking talents, and De'Andre Hunter is a key veteran who could help bridge some holes on the wing.
However, the main reason the Kings found themselves on the losing end in this trade deadline cycle is that they once again failed to find a trade for Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Malik Monk. Additionally, their trade discussions with the Toronto Raptors surrounding Domantas Sabonis never gained significant momentum as Sacramento was unwilling to take over Jakob Poeltl's contract.
Perhaps this will all be revisited in the offseason, and the Kings get the perfect trade to Toronto or someone else for Sabonis, but LaVine and DeRozan basically have negative value at this point and will be forced to finish out their contracts with the Kings unless they are bought out, which doesn't seem likely.
This organization still needs to find a way to accumulate young assets and draft picks, but there is no way to do that with the players on their roster. Signing Dennis Schroder last offseason proved unsuccessful for the Kings and now it appears it will take them several years to get to where they envisioned.
It's crazy to think that just a few years ago, this franchise looked to be one of the most promising teams in the entire league, with De'Aaron Fox leading the way. This shows how quickly things can go wrong for teams in the NBA.
