burnley Barcelona have failed in their transfer attempt to bring goalkeeper Joan Garcia to the Premier League.
The Spain international arrived at the Camp Nou from Espanyol in June 2025 for €25m.
Burnley boss Alan Pace also owns Espanyol from October 2025 and had tried to sign Garcia for the Clarets before taking charge.
James was number 1 at Trafford Turf Moor and starred for the Clarets last season. He played a key role in Burnley’s promotion to the Premier League.
His excellent performances allowed him to return to Manchester City in July 2025, with Gianluigi Donnarumma at the helm.
Following the Trafford exit Burnley looked for a new stopper and eventually signed Martin Dubravka on a free transfer.
Burnley wanted the Barcelona star
Before joining Barcelona last summer, Joan Garcia attracted interest from Newcastle United.
At the beginning of the season, Sport Witness Covered claims from Spain That he was tempted to join the Magpies.
Eddie Howe’s side were not the only team to miss out on the 24-year-old as Burnley also wanted him.
This is as of Tuesday’s edition sports worldAnd their headline said ‘Alan Pace wants Joan Garcia for Burnley’.
In the report, the newspaper says the Clarets owner made an approach for Garcia last summer. At the time, the American did not own Espanyol. Paes took this step after James Trafford was out.
Garica choosing Barca over Burnley is no surprise
There is no mention in the newspaper as to why the deal did not go through and who rejected Burnley.
Whatever the reason, it should come as no surprise that the appeal of joining Barcelona is far greater than that of Scott Parker’s team.
Joan Garcia has been No. 1 under Hansi Flick, replacing Marc-Andre ter Stegen at the Camp Nou.
He started in 37 matches for the La Liga winners this season, keeping 15 clean sheets and conceding 36 goals. The Spaniard is competing for the league and the Champions League, which would not have been possible at Burnley.
The Clarets are 19th in the Premier League table, 10 points behind 17th-placed Tottenham Hotspur. Martin Dubravka, who has been Burnley’s No. 1 this season, has four clean sheets and conceded 61 goals in 31 league matches.
