Dutch pundit Hans Croy Jr has hit out at the English press over unfair criticism of Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk.
Voetbal Primeur reports on the pundit’s comments today. Van Dijk has taken aim at the English press after impressing for the Netherlands.
The pair were one of the best for the Dutch in their recent 2-1 win over Norway. That win, and the performance, was somewhat of a relief from Liverpool’s troubles this season.
Both players have faced criticism as Liverpool struggle to defend their title this season. Van Dijk, in particular, looks a shadow of the player who has dominated as a forward in the past. This may be due to excess of matches, something like this This week hinted at itself.

It was criticized in the English press. Some people are even saying that the 34-year-old player has now given his best performance. However, Hans Kraay Jr. thinks it’s all nonsense.
“I thought Virgil van Dijk was sovereign,” he said in his column for Voetbal International.
“With some more beautiful cross balls, like the one he gives to Mohamed Salah at Liverpool. Van Dijk made an incredibly beautiful header; from the corner taken by our Teun, it hung in the air for a minute or two.
“The ball was also a bit behind him, but what a brilliant header.”
“Completely lost his mind”
Then he remembered the criticism coming from England and did not shy away from giving his response.
“In England, analysts, columnists and self-proclaimed know-it-alls have completely lost their minds,” He added.
“After four league matches this season, Van Dijk was named the best central defender ever in the Premier League.
“After four games, and two Erne Slot defeats, it was more or less over for Virgil. In short: Virgil van Dijk’s career was almost over.”
A reminder of Liverpool quality
For Craye, the Norway match appears to be proof that the Liverpool captain remains a key figure.
There may be doubts about him this season but as far as he is concerned, Virgil van Dijk is the same top-class player he always was.
He is aware of the noise around the veteran, but he is not hearing it. Perhaps this is advice Van Dijk should heed.
