A notable MLB insider believes the New York Mets could make a big trade before this summer’s deadline for a two-time All-Star pitcher with a World Series championship on his resume. But this is not the player most fans of the team might expect.
We are just hours away from the start of the NY Mets’ 2026 campaign. Despite last season’s poor finish, there are a lot of expectations for this year’s team. This is due to major additions made by the front office over the winter.
After watching some of their favorite players leave for months, Mets fans got reason to be excited when the team added high-impact veterans Bo Bichette, Luis Robert Jr. and Freddy Peralta in January. Combined with other offseason moves, the NY Mets have a team that could be very good this season.
However, it’s very likely they will make more roster changes during the season and may add impact weapons to the rotation.
NY Mets predicted to trade Nathan Eovaldi

That’s why The Athletic MLB insider Jim Bowden offered an interesting prediction on Wednesday. “With a year and a half remaining on his contract, starter Nathan Eovaldi is traded by the Texas Rangers to the NY Mets at the deadline.”
The 14-year veteran is a two-time All-Star and played a key role in Texas’ first World Series championship in 2023. However, over the past two years, the club has been linked to a pursuit of the Miami Marlins’ two-time All-Star, Sandy Alcantara. The one-time Cy Young winner will be a huge contribution in the second half.
But, New York feels that if they sign a new contract with Peralta during the offseason, they could have a great player for the long term. He also believes that young Nolan McLean can prove to be a great option for them in the coming years. So their need to acquire a true ace is not as critical as it was before. So adding a player like Eovaldi to bolster their depth and bring playoff experience is a sensible prediction for Bowden this summer.
