A new trade rumor offers the New York Giants an interesting backfield running partner for Cam Scatebo in 2026, and it won’t cost them the No. 5 pick in next month’s NFL Draft.
For the past few weeks, rumors have been circulating that the NY Giants could use their first-round pick in April on Notre Dame star Jeremiah Love. The Heisman Trophy finalist had a stellar season in South Bend last year and generated even more buzz for himself at the NFL Combine when he showcased his elite athleticism.
However, the idea of using a premium pick on a running back has surprised many Big Blue fans. That’s because 2025 rookie Cam Skattebo has developed a big fan base in New York with his play. Although he only suited up for eight games before suffering a season-ending injury, he showed the potential to become a starting RB in the league, and his passion for the game was infectious.
Clearly, the new John Harbaugh-led regime isn’t ready to hand the keys to the starting job to Skatabo just yet, if they’re taking a close look at Love. However, a new trade rumor offers a different option to add Skatobo to the backfield next year, and it allows the team to use their selection at No. 5 to fill a different need.
Should the NY Giants target Alvin Kamara trade?

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, “With the Saints reaching an agreement today with RB Travis Etienne, there are now questions around the league as to whether RB Alvin Kamara will be moving on from New Orleans and whether the Saints would be willing to trade him. Teams are keeping an eye on it and thinking about it.”
The 30-year-old running back is one of the best in New Orleans Saints history due to his dangerous dual-threat ability. However, after earning Pro Bowl honors in his first five seasons, he has had a string of up-and-down seasons since. Injuries have definitely been a factor. But the Saints’ messy QB situation over the past four seasons may be the biggest reason why their receiving numbers have declined massively since 2022.
With only one season left on his contract, the NY Giants should consider a trade. Skattebo could serve as a pass rusher early on, while Kamara would provide young QB Jackson Dart another impact weapon in the passing game, or an option for a change of pace out of the backfield.
Not only would a trade for Kamara benefit the Darts, but it would take a lot of pressure off Skatabo and allow him to develop more organically.
