While Tottenham fans focus on a relegation battle and complete destruction, it seems Xavi Simmons is focused on some happiness on the horizon. His eyes are on World Cup glory.
Soccer News covered the 22-year-old’s comments today. He is speaking to Matchday in the Netherlands. And it looks like he has big plans for the World Cup this summer.
The Tottenham midfielder is likely to be part of Ronald Koeman’s plans for the tournament, having been a regular under him during qualifying. He was a key figure as the Netherlands finished first in Group G.
He scored two goals and one assist during qualifying, scoring the third in a vital 4–0 win against Lithuania in November. This officially confirmed their place in the World Cup.
A key player for Koeman
The Tottenham star is a mainstay of Koeman’s team after his strong performances at Euro 2024. His struggles have yet to affect his place at Tottenham this season following a summer transfer.
They will enter the tournament looking to continue their strong form in recent tournaments. They have reached the quarterfinals in each of the 21 tournaments for which they have qualified.scheduled tribe century. However, Simmons has even bigger plans.
“Hopefully, we can achieve something big,” He said.
“When you play in a tournament like this, you can win easily; that’s the goal. The team we have is incredible.
“A lot of strange things happen at the World Cup, but the goal is always to win, and that’s what we have to focus on. It’s a very good group, with a mix of emerging young players and leaders like Virgil (van Dijk) and Frenkie (de Jong). That will help us as well.”
tottenham are struggling

The question is what kind of mental state Simmons will be in when he actually reaches the tournament. It’s fair to say that his first season at Tottenham hasn’t been an easy one.
Four goals and six assists in 35 games isn’t a terrible return by any means, but he certainly hasn’t had the impact Spurs were looking for when they signed him from RB Leipzig in the summer. Instead of putting pressure on him, he has so far been part of a destructive campaign.
They remain just one point above the relegation zone with nine games remaining after defeat to Crystal Palace on Thursday evening. They need someone like Simmons to step up.
