One of the biggest stories this season is the future of Giannis Antetokounmpo and whether he will stay with the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks are currently out of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference, as the roster is not suited to make a championship run without another star to take the load off Antetokounmpo and step up if he is injured.
But it appears Antetokounmpo is taking matters into his own hands, as a video from NBA All-Star weekend in which he is “recruiting” Suns star Devin Booker has surfaced. In the video, Giannis cited the example of Pistons big man Isaiah Stewart, who is known for his aggressive playing style and old-school enforcer attitude.
“You make everything look good, man, but you wear a different jersey than me. You can wear the same jersey as me. I’m like Isaiah Stewart: I’ll fight for you,” Antetokounmpo said in the video.
The reference was appropriate because Stewart was suspended seven games for running off the bench for fighting Hornets forward Miles Bridges following an altercation involving the Pistons’ Jalen Duren and the Hornets’ Moussa Diabate. But the joke hides the truth that Antetokounmpo wants help to achieve his championship.
Booker and Antetokounmpo share an interesting history, having faced off in the 2021 NBA Finals, which resulted in Giannis’ first and only NBA title. After leading the series 2–0, the Bucks swept four consecutive wins and their first NBA championship since 1971.
While Booker likely won’t be available for a trade this offseason, perhaps acquiring a second star would be what Antetokounmpo would need to stay in Milwaukee.
